Today's country music is sorely lacking, due to the fact that there is no real defining genre, what I mean by this is that the country music today you have a major beat that is consistent with pop, rock and roll, rap, an artist who's slide in and out of the genres without the ability to be able to tell a story and keep you engaged as to bring you back to their music with a defining hook or Bridge.
And as in all music today yes there is the good the bad and The Ugly, there are the exceptions but very few far and between as in the Blake Shelton's and Chris stapleton's and Reba McEntire's, but even these artists are not strictly country artist through and through they do have a few definitive country songs but they have also crossed over into the rock, pop, hip hop, genres as well which then left country music to Define itself as traditional country, hip-hop country, pop country, rock country.
The country music of the Willie Nelson's, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash's, were consistent storytelling put two smooth blending sounds that tied these stories and songs together whereas the songs of today are more about the melodies rather than the storytelling.
